We started out together walking down the aisles of the Civic Auditorium and across the stage to accept our diplomas.  As a class we were all together of one mind and one goal.  After graduation we have scattered like seeds in the wind.  Now after all these years we have classmates located all over the planet.  Many have not been back to Idaho Falls for years.  With the reunion coming up it is time to gather together again and celebrate our accomplishments the first of which is to actually make it back for the reunion.  For this reason we've created this section to try and help you make travel plans so that you can be with us for this historic event.  After all, aren't we all just dying to know who still has hair after all these years?

Where Are We?

A lot of things have changed in 30 years including our memory.  Since we've all experienced more than a few senior moments we thought it might be best to provide maps to help you find your way back to the high school.  It's funny, for three years we could think of nothing but getting out of this place and now here we are trying to figure out how to get back to the school.  There are probably teachers rolling over in their graves right now at the thoughts of the Class of 1979 coming back to the school.  We've marked the map to give you a head start so you don't have to worry about going and finding your old Geography text book.  We've entered the planet, continent, country, state, and city.  All you have to do is remember where you are currently at and the map will give you directions on how to get here.  Good luck and don't forget to turn off your blinker after you make the turn or have gone 120 miles whichever comes first.

How Are We Going to Get There?

Idaho Falls Airport

The Idaho Falls Regional Airport formerly known as Fanning Field, is a public airport located in the northwest part of Idaho Falls, in Bonneville County, Idaho, USA. The airport has two runways. The airport terminal has been expanded twice and partially re-built once. The current terminal was built in 1959, expanded in 1982 and the boarding area torn down and retrofitted to accommodate smaller aircraft with jet ways in the mid-2000s (the previous layout was designed for 737's, which stopped arriving in Idaho Falls after Delta discontinued service in 2002).

The airport is currently serviced by five airlines:

  • Alaska Airlines
    • Horizon Air (Boise, Bozeman, Seattle/Tacoma)
  • Allegiant Air (Las Vegas)
  • Delta Air Lines
    • Delta Connection operated by SkyWest (Salt Lake City)
  • Northwest Airlines
    • Northwest Airlink operated by Pinnacle Airlines (Minneapolis/St. Paul)
  • United Airlines
    • United Express operated by SkyWest (Denver)

Besides air travel, you may also travel via automobile.  Interstate 15 in Idaho is known for beautiful landscapes along the freeway in the state. The freeway crosses through the largest city in eastern Idaho, Idaho Falls.  The exit to city center is exit 118.  Idaho Falls is located three hours north of Salt Lake City Utah.  Information on road conditions can be found at the Idaho Department of Transportation.  Bus service runs from Salt Lake City to Idaho Falls and is serviced by Trailways Bus Lines.

Where Are We Going to Stay?

Driftwood Motel

There are several hotels in the Idaho Falls area that provide great value for your dollar and allow you to stay close to the center of town where most of the activities take place.  Among those are:

  • Ameritel
  • Driftwood Motel
  • GuestHouse Inn
  • Holiday Inn Express
  • Le Ritz
  • Red Lion
  • Shilo Inn

The reunion committee will be working with several of these hotels to see if we can get a block of rooms at a discounted rate. Check back often and we'll update this page when we have more information.

Yeah But What's the Weather Like?

Idaho Falls Green Belt

Remember when we were growing up and we would ask our parents what the weather was going to be like before we headed out the door?  They would tell us one thing and within 2 minutes it would be exactly the opposite.  We would come home and complain that they were wrong about the weather and they would reply, "If you don't like the weather in Idaho just wait a minute and it will change."  I think all of us hated that answer.  But I have good news for you, you're now old enough that you can tell your kids that! Finally we are getting to the useful stuff for getting old.  See it's not all getting up a hundred times a night to go to the bathroom.

It is true that the weather in Idaho can be a little bit unsettled.  For that reason we've added a small widget that will give you the current conditions in Idaho Falls so that you can begin tracking it to decide what it is going to be like when the reunion rolls around.  Just don't be surprised if you watch the weather and pack summer clothes only to find out when you get there that it has snowed.  After all, "If you don't like the weather in Idaho just wait a minute and it will change."

Is there Anything to Do There?

Camping in Idaho

So you have made the decision that you are going to the 30th Class Reunion; that's awesome!  But going back to Idaho wasn't really at the top of your vacation destinations this year and quite honestly you're not sure what exactly there is to do besides the insanely great events planned for the reunion itself.  We've collected a few items that you might not necessarily think of doing but could make your vacation memorable.

  • Yellowstone Park - Idaho Falls is known as the gateway to Yellowstone. Just a few short hours you will find yourself in the nation's first National Park
  • Bear World - If you are interested in seeing wildlife but don't want to drive to Yellowstone, consider going just north of Rigby to Bear World where you can drive through an exhibit of animals that have been captured for your enjoyment
  • Tautphaus Park - Remember when you were a kid you always wanted to go to Tautphaus park and ride the rides or go to the zoo? Guess what, those exact same rides are still there. The zoo has been updated and you have to travel even less than going to Bear World
  • The Ware Wolfe headstones - Ah who can forget sneaking into Rollandet Park into the cemetary to find the two headstones "Ware" and "Wolfe" next to each other.  Or how about the headstone that knocked back at you when you knocked. Nothing like a good small town cemetary to scare your hair straight
  • Idaho Falls Green Belt - the city has put a lot of money into the area around the Snake River and made it a popular place for jogging, walking, or running.  As long as you're here why not get a little exercise?
  • Golf - Idaho Falls has several outstanding golf courses available. Honestly, who doesn't want to spend 4 hours chasing a small white ball around beating the crap out of it?

These are just a few recreational opportunities that abound.  Be sure to ask any of the committee members for information on these and other activities that are available.
